DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT ?

Insertion of acupuncture needles generally is not painful. At times there can be an intense sensation when ‘”the Qi arrives”or when a knot in a muscle releases. This sensation generally lasts just a few seconds. On occasion the needle will be adjusted or removed if the discomfort continues.

Many people equate acupuncture needles with medical needles used to give blood or get shots, but they are very different. Acupuncture needles are very thin and flexible, more like a filament than a needle. They are about the size of a cats whisker.
